BCAAs and protein – what is the connection?
Protein is made up of amino acids. It typically contains three BCAAs and 17 other amino acids. Some of the amino acids that make up protein are produced by our bodies and are considered non-essential; others must be obtained from outside: through food or supplements, and are considered essential.
BCAA powder and protein powder - is there a difference?
The two serve different purposes, with protein powders providing more amino acids. Protein powders are great as meal replacements or as supplements to increase overall intake. BCAAs are a targeted supplement designed to promote recovery.
heard that leucine is the active ingredient - so can you just take leucine?
Leucine promotes muscle growth, but on its own it can also have the opposite effect. This is because our cells trigger reactions when they process leucine, which require other BCAAs. If you don't have enough of them, your muscles have to supply them, which reduces your performance.
Why does BCAA Powder have a 2:1:1 ratio?
BCAA Powder features an optimal BCAA ratio of 2:1:1, with leucine being preferred. The formula contains twice as much of leucine as other two BCAAs because it's easier for the body to utilize it in this ratio and get exactly what it needs for recovery.
